Product Review: Pretty Athletic

A few weeks ago Pretty Athletic, the brand designed exclusively for active women, put a call out on social media for people who wanted to try their products. In exchange for a review you would receive a sample of a product of your choosing . I jumped at the chance as I had wanted to try them for a while, and I’ve been testing ever since.

So, who are Pretty Athletic? They sell high tech, natural skin care and each product has to meet the specific needs of active women. Their website boasts that their skincare range is refreshing, lightweight, quickly absorbed, super hydrating and ultra nourishing. It’s also 95% natural, never tested on animals and vegan. Their aim is to be the go-to brand for active women, whatever your skincare concerns and needs.

Their products are formulated and manufactured in Suffolk, England. They launched with six items that are blended with essential oils blends rather than fragrance. There’s no parabens, silicones, sulphates, PEGs, TEA, DEA, plastic microbeads or MI. Their products contain a potent mix of botanical ingredients, scientifically proven actives and vital skin nutrients – for beautiful skin, no matter how hard you sweat. In short, they’re passionate about women living their best active lives and having great skin.

When I emailed Layla, the company founder, I chose to try the Workout Glow but she also included a sample of the Purifying Gel Cleanser and the Invigorating Shower Gel. All reviews are my own opinion – I used the full size product over a number of weeks and the sample sachets are based on one or two uses. Reviews of the products and are marked out of ten stars.

Purifying Gel Cleanser – contains aloe and cucumber and you can use it in two ways. For a quick fix you can apply to dry skin, massage in after 30 seconds and then rinse. Or, for a purifying mask, you can leave on for 5 minutes before rinsing (I used it in the first way). The first thing I noticed about the product was the amazing smell (in fact, all the products I tried smell incredible!). The gel is thick but doesn’t feel heavy when you put it on and it spreads on really easily. I did find it a little hard to wash off but I did use the whole of the sample sachet – I think a a little bit of this would go a long way! It left my skin feeling fresh, didn’t leave any oily residue and didn’t leave my skin feeling dry either. Overall rating: 9 stars ★★★★★★★★★

Invigorating Shower Scrub – contains jojoba microspheres, menthol, lemon tea tree and raspberry seeds. I used this after I had been swimming because I find it hard to cool down and this promises to cool and refresh. I immediately felt the menthol and eucalyptus working and again the smell was incredible! It didn’t leave any residue, it left my skin feeling fresh and it didn’t dry it out. I do like a frothy shower gel and this didn’t froth up as I thought it would even though I used the whole sachet but that’s just my personal preference. The full size product comes in a pump dispenser so little chance of it leaking in your gym kit! Overall rating: 8 stars ★★★★★★★★

Workout Glow – contains calming rosewater, calendula, avocado and aloe vera. I absolutely love this product and think it’s the star of the show! Like the shower scrub, I started using this after swimming as my skin tends to really dry out from the pool. I don’t usually like rose as a scent but this is really subtle and fresh. It also comes in a spray bottle so it’s easy to apply – you spray on and then wipe off the excess with a cotton wool pad or ball (I had an operation recently and this has been my saviour). My skin felt really hydrated when I used this after swimming so Workout Glow is going to come in really handy for my swimming lessons in 2019 (I want to try a triathlon next year). I’ve actually started to use this pre-workout as well to wipe away a day of dirt. This is definitely an essential for my gym bag! The only down side is that, if you’re using this on the go, you need to remember to carry cotton wool pads with you. Other than that, I really don’t have any thing bad to say about this product! Overall rating: 10 stars ★★★★★★★★★★

In terms of price, the range starts at £15.50 and goes up to £28. It’s a little pricey for my budget so it will be a real treat when I do buy. However, I can see the Workout Glow lasting me a really long time, and the fact that this range is cruelty free and natural makes me want to pay a little more than I normally would. They do sell a starter kit at £16.50 which is your best bet if you want to try the range (the only thing not in the kit is the Workout Glow). The brand are often on sale in Holland and Barrett and Waitrose but, if you order directly from the Pretty Athletic website, they offer free delivery on orders over £30, a 30 day money back guarantee and free samples with every order.

Overall, it’s on the higher end of pricing but if you want quality skin care specifically designed for women with an active lifestyle, Pretty Athletic is a great choice! I look forward to trying the rest of the range and seeing their new products!
